What is a tithe?
The word, "tithe" literally means tenth or 10%. A tithe is the first 10% of your income. An offering is anything you give above and beyond the 10%.
Why do Christians tithe?
The Bible says, The purpose of tithing is to teach us to always to put God first in your lives. (Deuteronomy 14:23 TLB) Tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything we have.
In Malachi 3:10 (NLT), God says this:
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."
This is the only place in Scripture where God tells us to put him to the test. In other words, he's saying, "Go ahead. I dare you. See if you can out-give me."
God calls us to give voluntarily, cheerfully and sacrificially (Acts 2:44-47; Acts 4:32-35; 2 Cor. 8:1-5,7; 9:2,6-7,12-14; Prov. 3:9-10; 1 Tim. 6:17-19), which is the right response to a God who has been gracious to us. We believe that we are simply managers of God's assets and that tithing is simply returning to God what is already His. As Andy Stanley says, we teach our members to "Give, Save, and live on the rest."
Below are the various methods by which you can give here at CanbyCC.
Preffered methods of Online Giving:
If you decide that you would like to proceed with a one-time or reocurring gift online, we offer multiple options for doing so. Below is a list of our preffered methods in order.
1. ACH (e-check)
This methods ensures that the highest percentange of your tithe/gift goes the the church. To give via ACH (e-check), be sure to click on the check icon at the top of the screen when proceeding.
2. Debit Card
This method ensures that a high percentage of your tithe/gift goes directly to the church, and more importantly ensures that your giving is not causing you to go into debt.
3. Credit Card
While giving gifts via a credit card is an option, it is not an option we recommend. This option carries with it higher fees and the opportunity to accumulate Credit Card debt, which we teach against. However, for those who pay off their cards monthly and are financially responsible this option is available.
