Life Groups
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."
Ephesians 4:15-16
Life Groups
Canby Christian Church believes in the value of gathering together throughout the week for fellowship, prayer, and to study God’s Word. We view Life Groups as a means of allowing the congregation to shepherd and disciple each other. Our Life Groups are not specific support or counseling groups, or even primarily study groups. Rather, our Life Groups are to be used to cultivate a deeper understanding of God’s word and to facilitate meaningful spiritual fellowship with one another. They are a means by which each of us can live in community in the way Jesus commanded us.
Our groups currently meet most Thursday evenings from 6 pm - 8 pm at the church for a time of fellowship, food, and small group discussion. While most groups plan fun fellowship activities in the summer, our group bible discussions are paused over the summer to enjoy the nice weather and respect the many people who take vacations in this time. We offer a children’s program for kids from infancy through elementary school that mirror’s the content that is discussed in our adult small groups from 6:15-7:45 pm. If you have middle school or high school-aged children, they are welcome to participate in the CCKids program to help out or they can jump in with the adult small groups if they feel comfortable doing so. In addition to these Thursday night gatherings at church, many groups gather in homes periodically for fellowship nights, BBQs, or movie nights.
Our Life Group discussion time primarily consists of looking at a small portion of scripture and asking some key questions that help us to understand the meaning of the text, how that portion of the bible relates to the larger gospel story and ways we might apply God’s teachings in our lives so we can have a practical and positive effect in our families, our neighborhoods, and our world.
Curriculum
To help accomplish this we use a Life Group Discussion guide that features open-ended questions which can be used on any portion of scripture. You can download the discussion guide by clicking the button below.
